remarkably intact 19th century antique american oversized 12-sided or paneled salt-glazed earthenware or pottery bottle dug from a downtonwn chicago privy pit. the exact fabricator is not known. the multi-faceted bottle contains the bottler's name "dr. cronk" stamped along the shoulder. based in the detroit area, cronk's bottles were widely distributed in michigan, ohio and new york beginning in the 1840's. after the late 1860's distribution stopped. several variations of cronk's bottle exist, both in pottery and glass form. the tapered or lightly flared lip is free from damage. no major cracks, chips or other damage evident.
