original c. 1920's american flush mount pressed and folded steel exterior residential mail box, commonly found on craftsman or bungalow style homes. fabricated around 1925-30 by the p.n. manufacturing company, fulton, il. the slanted hinged top is opened by engaging the small thumbtwist located above the open-ended letters slot. the word "mail" is prominently displayed, in the form of embossed lettering, along the front of the rectangular-shaped box. the cluster of pierced holes indicates whether mail has been delivered and/or picked up. the two bent steel hooks are used for newspapers. black enameled finish contains typical surface wear. measures 7 x 2.5 x 10 inches. the piece has damage not pictured: It only retains one of the two bent steel hooks, and it is detached.
