intact vintage industrial laundry chute door, originally mounted flush against a wall within the hulda b. rothschild nurse's residence or building, built in the late 1920's. laundry chutes are typically metal shafts down a multi-story building which usually have an opening on each floor and terminates in the basement. the laundry chute door are made of heavy cast aluminum with a nickel plated cast brass latch with handle and cast iron lockable catch. the metal door frame is mounted flush against the wall with numerous holes for screws. manufactured by the metal vitrix co., chicago. the door measures 18 inches in diameter. with the frame, the diameter is 21 inches.
