original vintage wall mount enameled steel "columbus" oil cloth rack originally used for displaying table and wall applications to name a few. the red enameled finish remains largely intact with only minor surface wear. the company's product name is found at the very top of the rack with wear and discoloration consistent with age. remarkable industrial piece with straight forward functionality. measures 58 x 38 x 4 1/2 inches. the columbus oil cloth co. was founded in 1901 and began operations in 1902. the company manufactured oilcloth for table and carriage use, along with their widely recognized product known as wall-tex, within a newly-built 700,000 square foot factory building located in columbus, oh. around 1930 the company announced a change in name to the columbus coated fabrics corp., at which point, their product line greatly expanded to supply the government among other commercial clients with life rafts, hospital sheets, etc. during the 1940's vinyl was being applied to their cloth as an alternative to the strictly oil-based cloth. wall and table cloth products continued to be the companys staple products until the factory and/or business closed operations.
