original c. 1890's antique american interior residential staircase newel post bottom finial salvaged from a chicago residence demolished long ago. the mantels from this residence contain labels on the backsides indicating john a gauger & company as the fabricators. the gauger lumberyard was located at 22nd & laflin streets in chicago, il. the millwork company specialized in sash, mouldings, doors, mantels, newels, etc. the golden oak acorn-shaped finial (three matching are available) has been lightly cleaned and denailed. the original varnished finish remains in amazing condition, considering age. the solid white oak wood finial was apart of a very elaborate staircase system that was deconstructed (not by urban remains) and sold off years ago. the finials are priced individually. base diameter of 5 inches and 4 inches height
