early 20th century vintage american industrial "crescent style" portable lamp guard manufactured by the mcgill manufacturing co., valparaiso, ind. the unique handheld "trouble light" features a finely turned maple wood handle with a hollowed center enclosing the heavily insulated lamp cord. the long and narrow lamp or bulb guard is comprised of wrought steel, with evenly-spaced metal rods forming a perimeter around the light bulb. the original harvey hubbell key socket is original, but has been rewired with period appropriate braided black cloth lamp cord. the swivel hook is original and intact. the cage is removed by loosening the nuts found on the underside of the base plate. wood and metal refinished.
