original c. 1910-20 american industrial copper-plated cast iron angled back otis elevator "controller" plaque salvaged from an elevator motor and/or machine room located in the former john m. smyth co. building (non-extant), once housing the symth furniture company's flagship store. the cast iron elevator plaque contains a backplate for mounting on the control system upright panel found near the elevator's motor. the early 20th century plaque measures 18 x 2 1/2 inches. the original incised copper specification strip remains in place below the embossed lettering. the piece was acquired from an elevator service man, who has worked on downtown chicago building elevators for over 30 years. a number of other pieces acquired from his collection can be found on the urban remains website. measures approximately 18 x 1 x 2 1/2 inches.
