original early 20th century antique american richardsonian romanesque style "walsingham" pattern cast bronze doorknob backplate or escutcheon designed and fabricated by the russell & erwin mfg. co., new britain, ct. the bronze metal entrance door escutcheon contains intricate leafage along the top and bottom. the protruding collar or thimble remains tightly affixed to the backside of the escutcheon. the oversized opening above the thimble is used with a standard cylinder lock. measures approximately 12 x 2 3/4 inches.
