chicago consolidated bottling company, chicago, il., american glassworks, pittsburgh, pa.
unusually shaped antique c. 1890's amber soda or mineral water blobtop bottle manufactured for the chicago consolidated bottling co. the front body features a clean strike in the form of allover embossing, with "trade / mark" vertically embossed on around the stylized open-lined "ccbco" monogram on the shoulder. below this is embossed in bold block lettering "chicago / consolidated / bottling co. / chicago". the high, squat shoulders and wide neck resemble somewhat the typical shape of a 'dumpy' seltzer water bottle. it is finished with an intact applied blob top. the bottle has a smooth base with no markings. relatively few crudities in this bottle, though it does have some discoloration or debris from being dug. after 1886, the corporate giant lomax bottling works became the chicago consolidated bottling company with the combination of their factory operations with 15 other bottling plants (most of which john lomax purchased). the consolidated works were badly damaged by a fire in 1891. after presumably recovering, lomax continued as president and chief owner until his death in 1899.
