ornamental cast iron dawson bros. functional andtique fireplace gas insert - c. 1890's

dawson bros. fireplace gas insert. contains orig. on/off valve & draft handles. the surround, hood and detachable grates are embellished w/ fanciful ornament. dawson bros. manufactured some of the finest fireplace accessories in the midwest. their factory building is still extant, on halstad near grand ave. the factory was built in 1886. the insert was removed from a chicago greystone built around 1891.
