original c. 1920's polychrome finished art deco style figural terra cotta owl - richman brothers co. store

outstanding figural art deco style owl fashioned in terra cotta. composed of simple, yet elegant geometric lines w/ angular forms and vibrant colors. the polychrome owl contains a mixture of white, red and yellow. years of coal dust and/or soot has left the piece w/ a nicely aged patina. the owl was once apart of the cornice found on the old richman bros. store located at 114 s. state st. (chicago, il.). the build was built in 1929. the store originally carried men's suits, furnishings, and hats. the building had a neon sign running vertically along the facade, but has since been covered. the terra cotta cornice was removed in august of 2008. there are five owls available. manufactured by the american terra cotta co.
