chas a. brewer & sons chicago factory - gambling device manufacturer
constructed in 1914, the brewer & sons factory was a prairie school style building, adorned with midland terra ornament. located on the south side of chicago, brewer & sons was owned and operated by chas a. brewer, who retained several patents on early gambling devices. the factory manufactured wood patterns or molds for casting the metal components of early 20th century gambling devices. several patterns w/ the brewer bros. signature were discovered in storage. the quarter-sawn paneled offices and cast iron lobby staircase were key features of the interior. currently undergoing demolition, the terra cotta is onboard to be recaptured and brought back to our store.
