antique american c. 1920's original cast brass single electric light pendant fixture designed and fabricated by or for the harry alter lighting company, chicago, ills. the shade holder exhibits very intricate filigree lace work that terminates at a polychromatic center shield. the repeating pattern is identical on each panel that encloses the space that would hold a cylindrical shade. the residential fixture does retain the original two-part decorative cast brass ceiling canopy with a design that compliments the shade holder panels. two unusual looking dragon heads facing downward flank the single socket. the inclusion of figural designs or profiles seen in spanish revival style fixtures enjoyed widespread popularity, especially in the "atmospheric" theater lighting (i.e., lobbies, lounges and/or auditoriums) during the 1920's-1930's.
