remarkable late 19th century victorian era varnished oak wood interior residential pier mirror or "console." manufactured by the john a. gauger & co., chicago, il. retains the original beveled mirror flanked by slightly tapered and fluted round oak columns. the decorative ionic capitals with foliated scrollwork are comprised largely of gesso. the headed or crown is accentuated with classic egg & dart molding. additional ornament or applique adorns the frieze. the slightly curved bench is supported by a decorative wood corbel. the right side contains a darker (likely the original) stained finish. salvaged from a chicago graystone residence. measures 83 x 49 inches.
