mammoth c. 1890's original and intact two-part solid quartered or "tiger stripe" oak wood interior residential fireplace mantel attributed to the voss mantel company, st. louis, mo. the huge "music room" fireplace mantel contains an unusually large firebox opening. the dentiled shelf is supported by a multitude of solid oak corbels or brackets with volutes. the original and well-maintained beveled edge mirror is flanked by two sets of solid and slightly tapered fluted or deeply grooved columns with fanciful ionic capitals. the setback crown contains dentiled trimwork and intricate ribbon applique. the original varnished finish is in great overall condition considering age. exceptional in craftsmanship and sheer size. top and bottom portion detach. top measures 74 x 21 x 36 inches and bottom measures 76 x 29 x 48 inches. bottom opening measures 55 x 37 inches.
