Description

incredibly huge unglazed white terra cotta theater building facade cartouche featuring a laurel wreath surround, neogrec key and flame finial torch. the wings have highly detailed cornucopias w/ the masks of tragedy and comedy flanking the center. likely manufactured by the american terra cotta co. removed from the facade of the terminal theater (chicago, il). the architect was henry l. newhouse. this smaller movie house contained around 900 seats when built in 1915. the theater is unique in that the moviegoers entered on the screen side of the theater (sometimes referred to as "reverse auditoriums"). the terra cotta panel measures approx. 20 feet in length by 12 feet at the peak. pictures of reassembly can be provided upon request.
