existing gage building (1899) sullivan-designed cartouche painted to match its recreated counterpart

update: the original cartouche on the gage building has been painted over with a 3-part paint - perhaps to match the recreated one currently being installed? i don't recall seeing any substantial glaze spalling from the ground, but after speaking to the lead mason working on the restoration, the extant cartouche's glaze was badly comprised.
where preservation standards for historic buildings implemented? it's hard to give a satisfactory answer without all the data. boston valley did their part in faithfully recreating the pieces for the new cartouche, and the masons did a great job installing the new cartouche given the challenged (e.g., foundation settling unevenly, additional stories added, previous facade restorations, etc.) they were up against.
sequential images of the recreated cartouche being fully assembled over the past week will be posted shortly.
