the following images were pulled from one of my latest photographic archives devoted to the study of ornamental detail found throughout interior spaces within adler & sullivan's 1889 auditorium building. images taken from the building's theater and ganz hall will be addressed in future posts.
the images below focus on sullivan-designed ornament comprised of wood, leaded art glass, plaster, and ironwork. the fabricators of the materials will be added to the photo-captions when time permits.
additional notes:
sullivan-designed copper-plated cast iron staircase ornament - auditorium building (1889). adler & sullivan, architects. the ornamental ironwork was fabricated by the winslow brothers (chicago, ills).
hand carved quartered oak wood lobby detail - adler & sullivan's auditorium building (1889). the ornamental woodwork for reception, hotel lobby, and reading rooms was executed by carsley & east mfg. co.
richly colored stained glass executed by healy and millet. auditorium building (1889), adler & sullivan, architects.
