restoration work on howells and hood's neogothic limestone tribune tower gets underway

exterior restoration work has begun on howells and hood's 1925 tribune tower. several carefully stacked and labeled indiana limestone panels were removed from south facade for mast climber's anchor points. the gothic revival's limestone facade was executed by the indiana limestone company, bedford, ind.
like the 1928 jewelers building, i will be watching tribune tower closely this fall as repairs are made. more posts to follow.
bldg. 51 museum's collection of rare chicago tribune building ceremonial booklets previously owned by the architectural firm of mundie and jensen, along with sliver gelatin prints taken from the "crown," and artifacts salvaged from the building during previous restorations are provided below:
