building 51 is a privately funded organization dedicated to researching, documenting, and preserving chicago’s architectural history and legacy. prompted by the alarming rate of destruction of chicago’s 19th and early 20th century workers cottages, building 51 has incorporated and in the process of filing "chicago workers cottage association" or CWCA as a non-profit 501c3.
the association is a task force dedicated to preservation counter measures, targeting the quintessential chicago historical and cultural contribution of workers cottages. through this work, the cwca champions these architectural stories - seeks to raise awareness for their value beyond the land they reside on. their eradication from the cityscape means the silencing of one chicago’s greatest architectural contributions.
