unusual and all original early 20th century thick stamped brass metal "furnished apartment" single-sided hanging sign attributed to the rome bronze company, rome, ny. the well-designed sign is rectangular-shaped, with lightly incised or recessed fanciful lettering. the original baked black enamel used for the lettering and border remains largely intact. the heavy brass sign has developed a nicely aged surface patina through the decades. original chain included. the sign was found in a single room occupancy "hotel" in chicago. the sign was likely hung in the window or on the wall. the four mounting holes were designed to attach the sign flush against a flat surface indoors or out. great overall condition. sign measures 14 inches x 8 inches.
