all original c. 1914 antique american industrial adjustable height telephone switchboard operator's revolving chair or stool manufactured by the a.h. andrews co., chicago, il. the solid mahogany wood contoured seat and backrest retain the original varnished finish. the high tensile strength solid "bessemere" steel rods twisted and interwoven. the folded and pressed sheet steel heel ring or footrest is bolted firmly to each of the legs containing hooped feet. the stool seat is supported by a solid threaded steel spindle that rotates with very little resistance. original black enameled finish contains sporadic crazing consistent with age. large cast iron faucet handle used to adjust the backrest is completely intact and fully functional. the andrews operator stool was found stored away in an old telephone service building. rare early industrial twisted steel rod high chair.
