extraordinary hand painted american moorish revival theater wall sconce shade with intact wire frame and decorative fringe border. the multi-faceted parchment paper or linen shade features colorful articulated decorative ornament, with polychromatic floral ornament. the backside of the shade contains a clip to mount directly over a bare bulb with socket mounted flush to the wall, as found in the theater's auditorium. the unusual folk art light sconce shade was removed from a c. 1907 masonic temple in hammond indiana. according to the northwest indiana times, the mammoth cornerstone to the ornately elegant three-story red brick building on muenich court was laid may 1, 1907, to great fanfare. speaker for the day was none other than charles fairbanks, vice president under u.s. president theodore roosevelt. in 1921, the masonic building association enhanced the building to the tune of $440,000. as of june 2009, the demolition of the building has been initiated.
