c. 1925-29 fantastic art deco style ornamental cast iron figural smoking stand known as "dragon model 200" according to period home furnishing magazines. the unusual and remarkably cool deco furniture piece features a full figure detailed serpentine or reptilian dragon with scaly body, dorsal spines and a large curvaceous trident tail. the creature serves as the carrying handle and mounting apparatus for the original, intact receptacle (almost always missing). remarkably, the original bright, rich and vibrant red enameled surface finish remains in excellent condition - surviving the horrific and unnecessitated paint jobs that many surviving examples have succumbed to. manufactured by the scroll art co., bridgeport, ct. measures 28 x 8 inches.
