historically important all original and intact ornamental cast brass interior capitol theater auditorium illuminated ruby red exit sign or light possibly fabricated by or for the victor s. pearlman & company, chicago, ills. the movie house fixture contains a heavy cast brass front plate with fanciful lettering. the openings are backed by the original thick ruby red glass plate concealing the two opposed barebulb sockets. the "can" retains the original plated brass finish. the illuminated exit light remains in good condition, considering age. designed by notable atmospheric theater architect john eberson, the capitol theatre opened on january 19, 1925 as a large atmospheric theater resembling an ancient rome villa replete with full-sized statues, temples and greenery. the capitol theatre’s lobby and foyer areas contained recreated cast plaster of greco-roman reliefs, additional more statuary and mosaic tiled floors. like the auditorium, the lobby had a blue starlit sky. the capitol theatre was very similar in design to john eberson’s majestic theatre, built less than two years earlier, but unlike the majestic theatre, the capitol theatre contained organ grilles in place of side boxes. originally built for the cooney brothers circuit for both stage acts and movies, the theatre later became part of the warner brothers/stanley-warner chain, and changed to a movies-only format. the capitol theatre was closed in 1974, and the poorly maintained theatre was demolished in 1985. 10 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 7"
