all original early 20th century antique american industrial "dann's all-steel" three-legged dictionary stand. comprised entirely of steel with original oxidized copper and/or "tiger stripe" plated finish largely intact. the unique mobile book stand was manufactured by the union school furnishing co., chicago, il. the tripod base contains three cabriole style legs with original steel casters. the midsection or shelf features a simple platform or bookshelf with raised edges. the stand was designed and adapted for supporting large, heavy and cumbersome books such as dictionaries, directories, atlases, etc. features numerous adjustments pertaining to height, width and tilt. the movable platform or shelf sections may be brought together or spaced apart for conveniently supporting an open position book of different thicknesses. measures 21 x 21 x 45 inches.
