victorian era c. 1880's railroad passenger car interior door hardware with a nicely aged surface patina. the ornamental details or designs are rather striking. manufactured by the adams & westlake or "adlake" of chicago. the adams & westlake co. the adams & westlake was founded in 1857 in chicago, illinois. in the beginning, they began manufacturing and selling railroad supplies and hardware. with the opening of the american west and expansion of the railroads, the company prospered and diversified. within 45 years, adlake became one of the largest suppliers of equipment to the transportation industry in the world. in 1927, adlake relocated to its present site in elkhart, indiana.
