recently salvaged lightly cleaned late 1860's all original pre-fire chicago commercial building interior apartment or tenement room passage door likely fabricated by the c.j.l. meyer mfg. co., chicago, il. the distressed brown painted door was removed from a milwaukee avenue commercial block (containing residential living on the upper floors) constructed around 1869-71 with an athens marble or buena vista stone (quarried from joiliet, ill.) facade. the paneled passage doors were originally outfitted with russell & erwin mortise locks (patented in 1862), along with white porcelain doorknobs and matching escutcheons. the paneled passage door exhibits an allover crazed finish. the original painted treatment consisted of a faux wood grain finish mimicking oak wood. the door's rails and stiles are structurally sound and stable. several passage doors in this configuration available.
