single c. 1850-58 original antique american willam m. rex emerald green glass privy dug bottle fabricated by the dyotville glass works, philadelphia, pa. the hinged mold "porter" style bottle contains a deeply recessed "improved" or iron-pontiled base. the embossed letter bottle contains a tapered lip or mouth with single ring. the body contains the bottler's name, along with the address - "211 green st." great overall condition, considering it being a dug bottle that has not been cleaned or tumbled. remarkable crudities including heavy whittling along the tapered neck. with the exception of a rare open-pontiled rex bottle recently unearthed in philadelphia, the majority are iron-pontiled. william m. rex was active as a philadelphia bottler/tavern keeper from 1835-1866, according to historical philadelphia business directories. his business locations varied over the years. from 1840-1844 william m. rex is listed as a bottler at 175 coats (now fairmount ave). in 1845, rex is listed at 211 green street in the northern liberties section of philadelphia,
