original hard to find antique american unusually large cast bronze "papers and packages" flush mount hinged door mail slot salvaged from an old downtown chicago hotel. the slot or chute was designed and fabricated by the yale & towne mfg. co., new britain, ct. the hinged door contains deeply incised lettering with traces of the original baked black enameled inlay. the unornamented slot contains a mostly uniform aged surface patina throughout. measures 16 x 8 inches.
