pair of cast brass fraternal and/or calligraphic passage door knobs made by p.f. corbin or perhaps, yale and towne. removed from the c. 1903 excelsior club located in boston's west end neighborhood. the club involved thirty-five jewish boys, children of immigrants and neighborhood friends, who on their own volition, formed a club called the excelsior club. the excelsior club's activities included performances of scenes from shakespearian plays, social gatherings, etc. the "melon" profile doorknobs have really striking, raised calligraphy. exceptional and highly unique antique doorknobs.
