original and fully functional c. 1920's antique american weighted cast iron three-legged medical work stand designed and fabricated by the bausch & lomb optical co., rochester, ny. the refinished base features a fully adjustable threaded steel spindle that supported a tabletop (removed long ago) containing optician's testing equipment. the spindle moves up and down by rotating the oversized dial or disc with raised edge. the three outswept legs retain the original bassick casters. the stand has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer.
