hard to find and highly sought after early 20th century original and intact steam factory pipefitter's tool chest or "strongbox" designed and fabricated by the clifford peterson tool co., chicago, il. the chest is comprised largely of cold-rolled steel with malleable iron corner guards and hardwood braces. the wrought iron hinges, lockable hasp and opposed oversized drop handles are original and fully functional. remarkably heavy duty construction designed to withstand substantial wear and tear, in addition to being heavily secured to prevent theft of tools. the spacious interior compartment is lined with heavy gauge sheet steel. salvaged from an old steam gauge factory complex. the cabinet has been refinished throughout. chest measures approximately 34 x 23 3/4 x 18 inches.
