rare and hard to find intact antique privy dug c. 1870's deep teal aqua glass pony style blobtop mineral water or soda bottle fabricated for hunt & kenyon in chicago, il. the richly colored bottle has low sloping shoulders finished with a slim neck and completely intact applied blobtop. the front body is caseworn, but thinly lettered embossing is still legible, "h & k / chicago / ill". there is no maker's mark embossed on the bottle. at the smooth base is a single central dimple and seams evidencing manufacture with a key hinge mold. the bottle was salvaged from a privy pit in chicago along with a number of other early 1870's bottles. crudities are typical of its age and date of manufacture, including whittling, stretch marks, bubbles and minor surface wear or discoloration. according to city directories, r.s. kenyon and d.t. hunt were furriers who operated a business in rochester, n.y. (beginning the iteration of their partnership in 1874), selling hats, caps and furs at 100 and 102 state street. bottle measures 7 1/4 inches in height.
