SKU: UR-23566-15
exceptional antique american victorian era 19th century american marbleized slate mantel possibly fabricated by the c.b. evans mantel and grate company, cincinnati, oh. the hand-painted "faux" marble finish applied to slate was salvaged from a chicago two-flat residence constructed around 1885. the hearth and jambs contain lightly incised floral design motifs accentuated with the original gold leaf enamel inlay. the beveled edge mantel shelf remains in great overall condition, considering age. the fireplace mantel includes the opposed wall segments, inner segments (used to enclose the firebox opening) and two black beveled edge blocks that divided the frieze panel from the jambs. these parts are not shown, but contain the same marbleized treatment and are free from damage. metal anchors and plaster left untouched.
