exceptional 19th century historically-important interior louis frank residential ceiling medallion executed by sculptor james legge. the sullivan-designed light fixture ceiling medallion was salvaged by richard nickel from the 1884 south side chicago frank house prior to its demolition in 1968. the majority of the rooms within the house contained this medallion (along with other adler and sullivan commissions). when the house was electrified, the centrally located opening was enlarged, with the exception of one rosette. the house was located at 3155 south michighan avenue. the mansion was crowned with galvanized steel decorations and its facade featured a luxurious two-and-a-half-story projecting bay. prior to its demolition in 1968, the building housed iit’s vandercook school of music, as documented by richard nickel. the house was commissioned by adler and sullivan.
