late 19th century intact late antique american victorian era ornamental cast iron interior residential summer cover designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the deeply embossed decorative fireplace summer cover contains a unique assemblage of musical instruments surrounded by cornucopias, abundant leafage and scrollwork. the raised design elements are finished in metallic gold. the dimpled textured field pattern contains a mostly uniform black enameled finish. measures 20 x 25 1/4 inches.
