original antique american ornamental cast iron interior residential "truro" pattern backplate designed and fabricated around 1900-10 by the sargent hardware company, new haven, ct. the original copper-plated finish remains largely intact. the richly ornate backplate were salvaged from a chicago residence undergoing renovations. embossed manufacturer markings found on the backside of the single keyhole escutcheon. backplate measures 7 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches.
