original antique american 19th century single-sided cast iron furnace or boiler manufacturer plaque fabricated by or for the highland foundry co., boston, ma. naturally aged surface left untouched. the plaque contains embossed lettering accentuated with abstract floral motifs located above and below the lettering. established in 1842 by messrs, bowers & pratt, the highland foundry company fabricated cast iron stoves, ranges, furnaces, and hollow-ware throughout the 19th century. their manufacturing plant covered an area of about two acres, upon which were erected numerous buildings, such as foundries, pattern-shops, flask-shops, stables, sand-houses, store-houses, etc. the stoves, ranges, furnaces, etc., made by this company, were remarkable for their beauty and solidity of construction, simplicity of arrangement and their economy in the use of fuel. the plaque was likely salvaged from a factory and/or commercial building boiler plant.
