all original and intact 19th century antique american solid oak wood interior residential fireplace mantel likely designed and fabricated by the foster-munger company, chicago, ills. the distinctive quartered oak wood mantel with "tiger stripe" finish contains two opposed columns with heavily ornamented ionic capitals. the frieze contains a centrally located laurel wreath with ribbons. the restored mantel has a uniform stained finish throughout. the half mantel remains in great overall condition, considering age. the mantel was salvaged from a chicago residence built in the late 1880's. 58 1/4 x 13 1/2 x 50"
