original and fully functional early 20th century antique american flush mount louvered wall grate designed and fabricated by or for the hess warming & ventilating co., chicago, il. the strongly geometrically designed grille is comprised of cast iron with a mostly uniform black enameled finish. the housing containing a plurality of shifting louvers remains intact. the grooved finger or thumb "wheel" or lever used for opening and closing the louvers is on working condition. a total of 11 matching grates bearing the same design characteristics are available. priced individually. salvaged from a multi-story chicago apartment building undergoing demolition. 9.75 x 9.5"
