c. 1900's antique american exterior residential entrance door "new departure" mechanical doorbell rotating "finger twist" handle likely fabricated by the new departure mfg. co., bristol, ct. retains the original rococo style rectangular-shaped flush mount backplate containing two screw holes that flank the protruding knob. rotating the knob or t-handle, either to the right or left, communicates to the hammer-shaft (creating a rapid rotary motion), whereby the hammers are caused to strike the inner surface of the bell or gong in rapid succession. doorbell not included. original copper-plated finish largely intact. measures approximately 1 7/8 x 1 inches.
