one of three early 20th century original and intact american industrial shopworn hog butcher oversized meat cleaver salvaged from an hardware store that was formerly an old chicago pork butcher's shop dating back to 1903. the nicely worn and weathered blade resembles a rectangular-shaped hatchet with a single hole for hanging on a hook against the wall. this thick blade is designed to cut through bone and withstand continuous compact with a chopping board.the solid maple wood double-sided handle containing three bronze pins remains in great condition. three nearly identical antique industrial meal cleavers available. possibly fabricated by or for john chatillon & sons, new york city, ny. measures 13 x 4 inches.
