impressive c. 1920's neoclassical style all original american ornamental cast brass eight arm candelabra chandelier designed and fabricated by the beardslee mfg. co., chicago, il. the ceiling-mount incandescent light fixture retains the original tapered and turned, cylindrical-shaped brass shades that are mounted atop the enameled steel candle sleeves used to conceal the keyless sockets. the antique american light fixture contains a nicely aged surface patina that has been lightly cleaned. the well-maintained candelabra fixture was salvaged from the chicago athletic association building annex. the tubular post or stem and canopy are original to the fixture. the 20-story prairie style chicago athletic association annex (also known as the chicago athletic club addition or "madison building") was designed by the notable chicago-based architectural firm of schmidt, garden & martin. the madison street landmarked high-rise was added to the existing 11-story neo-venetian style chicago club association building constructed in 1893 by architect henry ives cobb. the towering "gardenesque" style red brick and ornamented limestone annex was completed in 1907, with an additional eight floors added in 1925. together the two buildings form an l-shape wrapping around willoughby tower. the annex contained the famous "cherry circle" bar room, lodging, the crystal room, offices and a presidential suite on the 18th floor. a matching set of sconces (identical pattern) were salvaged from the same building. measures approximately 25 x 50 inches.
