highly desirable all original late 1920's american vintage industrial varnished solid white oak wood hardware store "cotterman" rolling ladder designed and fabricated by the i.d. cotterman co., chicago, il. the oversized "library" style ladder contains structurally sound and sturdy varnished oak wood steps or rungs affixed tightly against long vertical stringers or rails. the solid steel support rods mounted below each step provides added strength and stability. the flanking cast iron and steel roller upper fixtures containing single groove sheaves are intact with original baked black or "japanned" enameled finish and manufacturer markings in the form of lightly embossed lettering. the hardened rubber wheels are attached to cast iron forks bolted lightly against each stringer. the original golden oak finish remains largely intact, with light surface crazing evident. a total of four matching rolling ladders are available. listed individually. salvaged from a recently shuttered chicago hardware store. measures 118 x 27 x 3 inches.
