19th century antique american victorian era interior residential architectural fireplace gas insert or grate designed and fabricated by the dawson brothers, chicago, ills. the cast iron gas insert contains a mostly uniform black enameled finish. the grill in front of the gas jet holes features two winged dragons facing a fanciful vase with flowers. the intact fireplace insert was salvaged from a chicago residence built around 1896.
