remarkable early 20th century american folk art "fresh eggs" exterior trades sign removed long ago from a small town grocery storefront. the sign fabricator is not known. the distinctive c. 1900's oversized trade sign is comprised of heavy gauge cold-rolled sheet iron in the shape of an egg. the original hand-painted lettering (red and black) is mostly intact on both sides of the sign. the two diminutive holes along the top edge were added for use with wrought iron brackets. the weathered white enameled finish contains minor paint loss, discoloration and other surface characteristics reflecting age. the sign was discovered in the chicago area. measures 28 1/4 x 20 inches.
