highly embellished c. 1870's ornamental cast brass residential passage door keyhole escutcheon manufactured by the mallory wheeler co., new haven, ct. the backplate originally contained a swinging keyhole cover (long since lost), which accounts for the additional hole above the skeleton key opening. contains four scrw holes four mounting purposes. black enameled inlay highlights the casting detail. nicely aged surface patina. measures approximately 3 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches.
