likely fabricated by union glass works, philadelphia, pa.
very rare original and intact mid-nineteenth century emerald green soda bottle fabricated for patrick conway in philadelphia, pa. the front body is embossed "p.conway / bottler / philada" with raised end-letter 'a' in the abbreviated 'philadelphia'. the reverse side is embossed "no 8 hunter st / [ornament] / 108 filbert / mineral water" with raised and underlined 'o' in 'no' and "t" in "st". the low, steep shoulders and narrow long neck are finished with an applied blob top that exhibits asymmetry and significant whittling. the base features a moderate kickup with very little residue from manufacture with iron pontil. all crudities are consistent with age and date of manufacture, including bubbles, whittling, and stretch marks. there is a single onion skin bubble that overlaps a side seam and the first line of embossed lettering. intact and in good condition.
