all original late 19th or early 20th century american industrial vanderman railroad gold bullion strong box with intact oversized opposed drop handles and lockable security hasp. the exceptional freight or transport chest was designed and fabricated by the vanderman plumbing & heating mfg., co., willimantic, conn. the reinforced box is comprised of heavy gauge formed and pressed riveted joint steel with a brushed metal finish treated with a clear coat lacquer. the protruding steel staves or channels provide added support and security. corner locking mechanisms employing railroad style locks and bolts were removed long ago. the hinged top remains tightly fastened to the backside of the box. allover rivets from top to bottom and side to side. remarkable in design and construction. measures 37 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches.
